Holiday Fun

The theme of Holiday Fun promotes libraries as places to go for fun activities, and not only for serious study.

Visit our Toolkit to download posters, logos, a campaign shell where you can add your own text, and other documents to help in your campaign.

Ideas

Rebrand current activities
Many of the activities your library is already doing may be easily re-branded as part of the @ your library campaign.  Review your current programming and incorporate existing activities by adding the @ your library logo or by linking into relevant themes on the calendar.

Link to calendar events
Visit the calendar to see what is happening statewide or nationally this month and plan a themed event or display.

Summer reading program @ your library
Each year the State Library develops a summer reading program which is run via libraries throughout Queensland. Visit the 2005 Summer Reading Program website Cooee! [new window http://www.connectqld.org.au/cooee] and watch out for the 2005 summer reading program website for creative ways in engaging young readers over the summer holidays.

Staff holiday fun @ your library
Have staff bring in their holiday photos for a staff only display

School holiday @ your library
Choose a theme for your school holiday based on the local environment, a recently released book or movie, a field of endeavor e.g. science, exploring etc.

Storytime @ your library
• Storytelling by Elders for all generations
• Storytelling and related activities for ages 4 – 12
• Blast off storytime for under 5 years – space theme storytime and make a rocket
• Starry, starry storytime for under 5 years – space theme storytime and make a star

Our local environment @ your library
Theme activities using what you find in your local environment

Face painting @ your library
Use your imagination, turn into a fairy or a spider – for all ages

Holiday fun images @ your library
Choose quirky images from your collection related to holiday fun and give the public an opportunity to provide captions.  You could even offer prize for the best caption.

Globe-trotting @ your library
Bring in local travel experts to host a travel planning workshop and feature websites and other reference materials on how to find the best bargains, learn about foreign currency and plan a family holiday.

Share your holiday online @ your library
Encourage individuals to communicate with family and friends afar while they are on holiday by creating their own websites to be hosted free of charge through the State Library of Queensland’s Connecting Queensland at www.connectqld.org.au  or email connectqld@slq.qld.gov.au
